2012 Pro Rules

  • Refer to General Rules for non-building rules.
  • No 4X4 or all wheel drive cars. Front wheel drive or rear wheel drive are allowed.
  • Pre-derbied cars are allowed provided they meet all rules. Any cars deemed beyond rules will only be allowed in semi-mod class, which may or may not be available at that show.

VEHICLE PREPARATION:

  • Remove all glass, chrome, plastic, moldings, headliner, dash & flammable material, A/C coolant, antifreeze, trailer hitches and interior decking.
  • Stock gas tank must be removed. A small metal tank must be mounted in the rear seat area. The tank must be very secure, safe and covered. Plastic tanks not allowed for safety reasons.
  • Electric fuel pump allowed but switch must be clearly marked on-off.
  • No more than 2 batteries allowed, which must be relocated to front passenger floor, secured with a box/hold-down  constructed of metal and covered. Plastic marine type boxes are not acceptable for safety reasons.
  • Floor shifter allowed. Ignition & wiring modifications (hot-wire) allowed.
  • Hood must have 12” x 12” minimum hole to easily extinguish fires. Extra hole(s) in hood not required if you have at least 12” x 12” header holes.

FRAME, BODY & BUMPERS:

  • Frame seam welding is allowed, not to exceed 1” in width, no filler metal allowed, unless stated. Frame repair due to damage or rust is allowed – repair patches cannot be longer in length than 6” and must have a gap between them. Stacked patches or patches without gap will have to be removed completely. Frame repair metal cannot be thicker than 1/4”.  Repairs can only be made on 2 of the 4 sides of the frame. Rear hump repairs must follow contour of frame, cannot be sticking above or below hump contour. Excess will need to be removed completely. Leaving enough to bolt a chain to tie down rear end is not acceptable. Paint all repairs a bright color for identification. DO NOT undercoat repairs. Fresh undercoat will be considered an attempt at hiding excessive repairs, and move you up to the semi-mod class. Bolting or pinning of frames is not allowed except in the Imperial class where 4 spots of the frame may be pinned/bolted. Frames will be scoped.
  • Holes in frame can be welded shut with max 1/4” plate, do not overlap existing frame more than 1”. You must leave a 3/4” diameter hole for scope inspection in front of A-frames and at firewall area. Rear frames (behind axle only) that are a factory C-channel can be boxed in with the same thickness or less steel. Must have a spot to get a scope into. The center C-channel frame cannot be boxed in. Truck frames cannot be boxed in except to hold down engine.
  • No stuffing or filling frame. Do not undercoat, paint(except to identify repairs) or put any substance in or on the frame. This will be considered an attempt to cover up excessive repairs and move your car up to the semi-mod class.
  • Body seam welding, bolting or screwing is allowed. Body repair is allowed. May not be thicker than 1/8 inch. No more than one patch outside only (except drivers door may be inside and out). No multiple layering. Front and rear door repair must be separate pieces of steel. Can be large enough to attach to straps used to weld doors shut. If front clip, trunk fenders, etc are too damaged, they may be  removed and replaced with new factory body pieces only. Firewall, floor pan (for shifter), wheel wells and fenders can be trimmed.
  • Fenders or wheel wells may be bolted or welded.
  • Tucking of trunk or roof is allowed. You must allow access for inspection.
  • Doors, trunk lid, hatchback or tailgate can be welded shut with 1/4” thick x 6” wide max plates or straps. A mandatory 12” x 12” access hole in the trunk lid or floor is required for inspection. Plates/straps cannot go to the frame. Tops of doors can be folded over and welded. If doors are not welded shut, they must be chained/wired. Two chains/wires per window opening allowed.
  • Trunk lid/tailgate & hood can be secured by a max of 6 bolts each. Max of 1” in diameter. Bolts can be welded or bolted to frame and must be vertical only. You may substitute an equivalent sized piece of steel (i.e.1 ½” pipe or tube steel) and weld a bolt on the end, instead of using a long piece of threaded rod. No flat washers or plates bigger than 6” x 6” x 1/4”. Six chains/wires can be used if bolts are not .You cannot use both bolts & chain/wire.
  • Body mounts may be removed. Original bolts can be replaced with up to 1” max diameter. Six additional body mount bolts may be added. They must all be vertical and no longer than 10” with max diameter of 1”. Any bolts holding gas tank, battery box, etc. to the frame are considered body mount bolts. No flat washers or flat plates larger than 6” x 6” x 1/4”. Bolts can extend all the way through the frame but plates will need to be able to be removed for inspection if requested so don’t weld them.
  • Rear suspension conversions allowed (coil to leaf, link to leaf, etc.). No front suspension conversions allowed. Leaf springs may not extend any further than 31” forward for full size cars & trucks and 24” for compact cars, measured from centerline of rear axle to center of main spring eyelet hole. Brackets to hold springs in place can be welded to the frame no more than 4" in any direction. No body mounts can be run through the front leaf spring mounts or be attached to the leaf springs. Leaf spring must be no thicker than 3/8”. Main spring may be doubled and secondary springs must have at least a one inch stagger. Springs may be clamped. Control arms, A-arms, tie-rods, ball joints, steering joints may be modified. Max bumper height of 28” from ground to bottom of bumper.
  • Bumpers & brackets may be interchanged from make/model/year. Homemade brackets allowed, but must be no longer or thicker (1/4” max) than stock brackets.
  • Bumpers, shocks & brackets may be welded, bolted & chained/wired. Two pieces of 4” x 12” x 1/4” metal may be welded or bolted to help hold the bumper on. Bumpers may be trimmed, but no sharp edges.
  • Dash bar and seat bars are allowed for driver’s safety. Bars may be connected to each other with door bars and may be connected to the floor in 4 places max. These may be welded to body mount plates, but not directly to frame. Bars may not be welded to the frame except in the Semi Mod class. Bars may not extend past the inside of firewall and may not extend rearward beyond the front most part of the rear wheel well tubs. Bars may not tie into rear frame humps or drive train. Halo (rollover) bars allowed but they must remain within the safety cage area.
  • Driver’s door window and windshield net/guard is recommended. Passenger side window nets are allowed, but for obvious safety reasons keep as many escape routes as possible from your vehicle. Across the hood and out the rear window are not always an option. Hardtop (no post) cars must have straps or chains/wires from door to roof in door post and/or passenger area. Rear window straps are optional and can only connect to the speaker deck area inside of the car. Any straps extended back onto trunklid will be removed completely.

ENGINE & DRIVETRAIN:

  • Any engine, transmission, rear end combination may be used. Rear end may be a max of an 8-lug automotive type. Rear end may be welded or spooled. Rear end may be chained/wired to frame in 2 places with bolts – not welded.  Rear end guards allowed.
  • Engine must be within 5” of original position. Engine components may be modified (fan blades, header pipes, etc.). Transmission cooler allowed and must be secure and safe. Transmission may be chained/wired in place.
  • Motor mounts may be modified to better hold engine in place, but may not strengthen car. Engine may be welded or chained down with bracing or chains that cannot extend more
than 12” from side of engine, 4 places max. Forward or rearward kickers from these mounts will have to be removed completely. No kickers. Aftermarket cradles ok.
  • Distributor protectors and water pump guards allowed. They cannot be closer than 4” to the radiator or radi-barrel. However, guards and mounting brackets may not be any wider than the engine block.

MISCELLANEOUS:

  • Radiator must be in stock position. Radi-barrels (homemade radiators) allowed provided they are no larger than a stock radiator and do not connect to the frame or bumper. No other auxiliary systems allowed. Radiator guards allowed, provided they are no thicker than 1/4” and are connected only to the radiator and the sheet metal. They may not connect to the frame or bumper. They may be bolted, wired or welded in place. No kickers from core support or radi-barrel back to frame or engine.
  • Any type of tire or wheel may be used. Split rims must be welded solid. Wheel weights must be removed. Valve stem protectors are allowed.
